Health Body = Healthy Skin

By: Edna Grace

When a woman takes care of her skin, her complexion can become clear, smooth, soft and vibrant. Achieving a glowing complexion will not only make you more attractive to others, it can also greatly improve your self-image. Just making small steps to enhance your complexion can have a wonderful impact on the way you interact with the world.

Some steps can be taken, no matter what your skin type, to improve your complexion. The condition of your skin is very telling of the health of your body. It is said that if the eyes are the mirror of the soul, the skin is the body's lie detector. Eating healthy and drinking plenty of water can help to improve many aspects of the body, including the skin. Consuming at least 8 glasses of water each day and several fresh fruits and vegetables can be a great start to getting better skin.

There are also simple techniques that can specifically target your skin type. Whether you have dry skin, oily skin or acne, your condition can be treated with specially formulated cleansers, exfoliators, moisturizers and makeup products. It is important to also learn the best ways to use these products.

Dry Skin vs. Oily Skin

For example, someone with very dry skin would want to be sure to use the right type of cleanser in the correct manner in order to not aggravate the problem. A cleanser may be prescribed for dry skin, but if you use it more than the recommended times per day, without following with the appropriate moisturizer, you may find your skin becomes more dry and flaky than before.

It is important to know your skin type in order to know how to treat it well. You may already know what your skin type is. If not, look for patterns of dry or oily areas on your face. You may find you have a combination of dry and oily skin. If you aren’t sure, one of the easiest ways to find out is to go to a makeup counter at a mall and ask one of the makeup sales representatives to assess your skin. Along with telling you your skin type, they will most likely give you plenty of other information about how to care for your type of skin as well as any products they may recommend for you to use.

When to Buy & Where to Get More Advice

If you aren’t ready to buy, or prefer a different product line, just pay attention to the kinds of products they recommend and look for a similar product in the line you like. For example, if they suggest a L’Oréal cleanser with alpha hydroxy acids, but you really love Lancôme products. Search around for what Lancôme products contain the same active ingredients or perform the same functions.

A more decadent route to finding out more about your skin type and how to care for it is by going to an aesthetician for a facial. He or she will be able to give you a wealth of information on your skin. (If you’re looking to justify the expense to yourself, just call it a fact-finding mission!)

With just a little effort you can easily learn the best methods for treating your particular skin. Whatever skin care regimen you end up going with, it’s important to stick to it religiously if you want to see positive results. As long as you keep your skin well nourished inside and out with a combination of a healthy diet and the use of quality cleansers, moisturizers and sun block your skin will glow with approval.
